The older cranes had a square slot milled around the post on the crane. A square nosed screw went into that slot to retain the crane. Hello, I purchased a new model 617 about a month ago. Having only owned/shot Smith CF revolvers, I was very disappointed with the trigger pull weights, both SA & DA, as it came from the factory. The 1911 has 3 different length triggers avaliable, as well as 2 different main spring housings, (arched or flat) and different width grips, all on these can be used the custom fit the gun to your hand and trigger finger length. Placed the slide on the frame, but could not get the slide back far enough for the slide lock to engage.
